Peptic ulser is a kind of ulcer where in a hole is formed in the stomach in the lining portion which is an erosion where the lining is affected by acidic juices. On an average, 5 to 10 percent of all the adults universally are affected by this ulcer during their lifetime.
This ulcer is usually caused by hyplori bacteria and non steroidal drugs. It is not just the stomach, it can affect the duodenum and esophageal too wherein it is called gastric ulcer if the affected area is stomach, duodenal ulcer in case of duodenum and esophageal ulcer if it is esophagus. 4/5th of these ulcers are caused by hyplori bacteria. Peptic ulcers may be formed if the lining of the corresponding organs are affected by the acidic juices.
Some of the symptoms of this ulcer include difficulty in swallowing food, food coming back, feeling unwell or sick after eating, loosing weight and appetite loss. Some of the symptoms that are not common include vomiting blood, stools and nausea.
This ulcer must be treated with the help of a doctor. There are some medicines like OTC that can temporarily relieve from pain but they cannot be a permanent treatment. Contact your doctor if you find any of these symptoms in yourself or in anyone else.
